4th anniversary...

today marks the 4th anniversary of the terror attacks on New York and Washington, D.C. while the official deathcount from that day has been finalized - some 2,700 people - people are still losing their lives because of the events of that day.

this year the anniversary comes as the U.S. is searching for a new final death toll - this time from a natural disaster. with a new emphasis on the cost of cleaning up the extraordinary damage from Katrina questions are being raised about our national priorities. it seems like this time the Bush administration may finally be called to task. why again are we spending so much money on a war - virtually by ourselves - in a country that clearly housed no weapons of mass destruction? why do we still have no policy to rid ourselves of the dependence on foreign oil - with the exception of a plan that may or may not find more of our own, likely at a great cost to the environment? and the most obvious questions which has yet to be answered to anyone's satisfaction - why did it take 5-6 days for real relief efforts to start in the storm effected areas?

let's just hope that this time we get answers and that those responsible are truly held responsible - whomever they may be.
