may the pride be with you...

it's that time of year again. the gentle breeze blows in the rolling 4 o'clock fog. flags of the rainbow variety line the main street. the queens are a-twitter. yes, my friends, pride month has returned.

there is much debate in the queer community regarding the value of such festivities. on one hand there are those who believe calling out the cause actually does us harm in that we celebrate our differences. the thinking is that our goal is to be thought of as a normal part of society, not a 'minority' that requires special status. the 'lead by example' approach. fair enough. then the other side argues that while normality is the goal we're certainly not there yet and for this reason we need to cause a stir once a year as a reminder that we're still here. again, fair enough.

if for nothing else than festival food and the chance to prance around in a kilt, I love it.

happy pride month everyone!
