pretentious...

I was reading the NY Times wedding announcement section this evening. It seems that the great-great-great grandson of our 25th President and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, William Howard Taft, was married recently. I never really read the wedding announcements before, but being a presidential buff this one caught my eye.

Have you ever read them? Some are very pretentious - not so much about the bride and groom, but their families. Father of the Bride was Ambassador to Poland, Undersecretary of State for Animal Feces and currently serves as partner at the law firm of Wicker, Witter, Hyphen and Boitoi who represent Bono of U2. Mother of the Bride currently serves as Vice President of the Red Cross and graduated cum laude on her chin from Harvard University.

So, I read a few more and noticed that most all were pretentious. Is this really necessary??

William Howard Taft was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1857. He was so fat that they had to install an extra large bathtub in the White House during his term in office. He's the only President to have also served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. He was distantly related to Richard M. Nixon - 37th President. Taft was the first President to golf and was an avid baseball fan. He started the tradition of the President throwing out the first pitch of the season. He was the first President to have his wife, Helen "Nellie" Taft, accompany him on his journey to his Inauguration. Helen "Nellie" Taft suffered a stroke 2 months after becoming First Lady.
